When you wake up in the morning, what do you look for? Chances are, you look for your tooth brush and start brushing your teeth to eliminate morning breath because you believed the advertisement that says you should. You then take out some dental floss you probably bought because it was advertised on television, and then you gargle with some mouth wash you saw in that cool ad. You then eat some cereals for breakfast and remember that you used to love those old cereal commercials you saw as a kid. You then take out some orange juice that was advertised on the radio station you listen to on the way to your job. A job that you learned of because they posted a job opening on the local paper, which you bought because a poster says it keeps you informed. It seems like all the things we do today have been touched by advertising. But the question is why it is so important?
Well, advertising is a branch of marketing that dictates anything from the way people see a product or service to the way they are accepted in society to affecting a person’s decision making process (when buying a particular product over a competing product). Advertisements are usually carefully crafted to affect society exactly the way they are supposed to affect them.
Before an actual advertisement is aired on television or radio, or before it is publish on newspapers, magazines, comics, websites, blogs, fliers, posters, tarpaulins, hand-outs, brochures, or even flags or balloons a lot of research and work goes into the production of it to ensure that it gives out the right message and affect consumers exactly how they would want it to.
Since the dawn of the internet, more and more people and business entities now engage in online advertising. This is basically advertising to promote, persuade, inform (and more intentions or reasons) done over the internet.
Internet advertising is used to deliver several messages to consumers and customers and encompass a whole list of different marketing tools. Some common forms of internet advertising are Rich Media Ads, Banner Ads, Search Engine Results Pages, Interstitial Ads, Classified ads over the internet, ad networks, e-mail marketing, bulk marketing, e-mail spamming, and even social network advertising.
All these website advertising tools are used for different purposes, different products, and are geared toward different audiences. Because of how dynamic the internet (and the users of the internet) is, there are still a lot of things that could be explored with online advertising. However, people are slowly accepting the fact that this type of advertising may just as well be their best bet when it comes to modern-day ads.
